DIY frozen theme piñata

A piñata is made of paper-mâché filled with candies or small toys and then broken as part of celebration. Making piñata  is very fun craft for me.
I did first time for my niece birthday, she chose frozen theme which came out very well, my little angel and their friends enjoyed a lot with the game. It is very easy craft. Just you need little patience that’s it.

Supplies:

  • Magazine papers
  • Flour-2cups
  • Water-2cups
  • Salt-1tbsp
  • Balloon-1(9 inch or 12 inch)
  • Vase-to hold balloon
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Crepe paper-according to your design
  • Printed frozen gallery pictures-2

Procedure:
  • Cut the paper into long stripes about 1 or 2 inches.
  • Make the paper mâché paste by mixing water ,flour and  salt. Stir this mixture until it starts to thicken batter.
  • Inflate the balloon and keep it on vase with the help of tape( you can see in picture)IMG_1373.
  • Dip the stripes into batter and remove any excess paste on stripes dragging them along the edge of the bowl.
  • Attach these strips all over the balloon in crisscross pattern as shown in picture (It is little messy part).
  • *Repeat this step 3 times, allow each layer to dry before you put another layer.
  • Once piñata completely dry, remove balloon from vase and start your decoration with crepe paper.
  • Cut the crepe papers in stripes at the edge then glue it onto the piñata, attach the printed frozen theme papers onto the two sides of piñata with glue.
  • Cut the front side of the balloon with scissors so that balloon comes from paper ball leaving a hole. From that hole you can fill candies.
  • Make four small holes around the neck with pen or pushpin and attach threads through that holes.
  • Fill piñata’s tummy with candies /small toys, once done close the hole with crepe paper.
  • Your piñata is ready.

Tips:
  • Inflate balloon round and big so that you can fill with more candies, also the shape looks nice.
  • If you run out of paper mâché make another 2 cups of batter ( it depends upon your layers).
  • It is a messy project so make sure the floor is covered with unused magazine papers or your craft mat.
  • For every layer it take around 6 to 8 hours depends upon sunny day, plan according to that. If you make it with more than three layers it can hold more candies and hard(fun) to break.
